Visconti Homo Sapiens 'Dark Age' is a beautifully unusual fountain pen. Made from basaltic lava from Mount Etna in Sicily, the barrel is matt black, with tiny pale inclusions just visible. Polished black barrel- and cap rings complete the 'dark age' effect. It's virtually unbreakable, heatproof to over 100 °C and slightly hygroscopic in that it can absorb moisture from your hands. This last property, in combination with the warm and very tactile feel of the material means that this pen has a unique quality to the touch.
Quick-action bayonet fitting cap with the characteristic 'Visconti'-inscribed sprung pocket clip in polished black. Barrel ring is inscribed 'Homo Sapiens'.
18ct gold 'Dreamtouch' black nib available in a range of sizes. The filling system is Visconti's High Vacuum Power Filler: unscrew the blind cap at the end of the barrel and withdraw the plunger. Submerge the nib fully into the ink, then press the plunger back down and count to ten. Remove from the ink and screw the blind cap back down; blot the nib with tissue to remove excess ink.
Dimensions: 145mm long capped, 131mm uncapped, 13mm barrel diameter. Weighs 46g.

Customise this pen with the Visconti MPS System, adding initials, zodiac symbols or natural stones.
Please note: rolling changes to the design of the nibs means that you may receive a pen with an arrangement of circles inscribed on the nib, instead of F, M, etc. One circle denotes fine; two circles denotes medium; three circles denotes broad.
