Cult Pens Sponsors the U.K. Coloured Pencil Society's 'Botanical' Competition
Coloured pencils are brilliant. Well, we know that, and you probably know that, but not everybody knows that, and so the UK Coloured Pencil Society was formed in 2001 to put the word out that yes, it is OK for artists to use coloured pencils!
And ooh, how they've been used! The UKCPS doesn't just shout about coloured pencils, it showcases talent - lots of it - and one of the ways it does this is through competitions. The theme for their latest one was 'botanical', and as we were lucky enough to be one of the sponsors we got to have a good squizz at all the entries. And we were quite simply staggered by the standard. The winners will be announced in April, but just to give you an idea of what we were up against in terms of making a decision, here are ten of the entries. And - by the way - it was really, really difficult to pick just ten.
'Autumn Leaves' by Denise Roberts.
Denise used a combination of Caran d'Ache Luminance and Pablos, and Faber-Castell Polychromos and Prismacolor. 'I like to mix it up!' she said.
'Courgette Surprise' by Amber Halsall.
'I used Faber-Castell Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Pablo for the courgettes and then Albrecht Durer water-soluble pencils for the splashy bits'.

Tim used Faber-Castell Polychromos.
'Lathkille Dale Tree' by Mark Langley.
'I used Caran d'Ache Supracolor II Soft and Classicolor. I also used a bit of graphite pencil on the darker tones and lines.'
