The 2016 Derwent Art Prize is currently open for entries, but not for very much longer - the closing date is the 1st of June. There's £12,500 in prizes up for grabs, with £6000 going to the first prize winner. Eighty of the works submitted will be chosen for display at the Mall Galleries in London in September, with prizes given out at an awards ceremony on the opening night of the exhibition.
The Derwent Art Prize began four years ago, and has had over 4,000 entries from 67 countries. It aims to increase the profile and importance of drawing as a fine art medium, with all entries being drawn in pencil. Previous winners have gone on to have successful solo and group exhibitions.
