The LOCLEN Electa is probably one of the strangest fountain pen designs we've seen for a while. The short cap is threaded, with matching threads at both ends so it can be posted securely when writing. Windows cut into the barrel let you see the ink inside. Cut-away sections at the top give you access to knurled brass inside, used to fill the pen with ink.
Technically, it's a converter-filled pen, but you don't really see or operate the converter directly when you fill it up. The knurled brass ring inside is attached to the piston knob on the end of the converter, and the converter screws into the nib section so everything is held in place firmly. You operate the piston using the kurled brass ring, without needing to open the barrel, so it acts just like a piston filler.
The result is a really striking pen. The design is simple, but unusual. Overall, quite minimalist, but that knurled ring visible through the cut-away sections give it a hint of steampunk. Is steampunk minimalist a style? It is now.
Oh, and you're assuming that nib section that the converter attaches to screws in to the main barrel, aren't you? We'd have assumed that, but it doesn't. It's a firm push-fit, mounted on three o-rings. Why? Well, LOCLEN says it adds a little bit of dampening, making for a smoother writing experience - like giving the nib some firm sporty suspension.
Optional pocket clip supplied, but take care if you fit it - there's a risk of damaging the finish of the pen when sliding the clip on and off.
Weights 46g. 124mm long capped, 118 uncapped, 150mm posted. Diameter approx. 12mm.
